The
following pages are required reading before racing online with the YAOL
league:

Driver Behavior- An in depth look at GPL's limitations
and the resulting necessary driver behaviour for clean online racing.
Bad
Driving- A "balls and all" look at the darker
side of online racing :)
Aside
from being very informative, they are also worth the read for the sheer
fun of it. Kudos to the authors!!
General league concepts
The car
type to be used will be either the 1965 or 1966 GPL mod.
In the
interest of on track safety, the
server will be run with the Bandwidth Patch (4 cars
in front + 2 cars behind). Go
here to download and install the patch. (Make sure you test your
connection to the YAOL servers before the first race, especially if
you have never run the bandwidth patch before. Just ask the YAOL administration
and they'll setup a server for you.)
Each season
will be scored as both a Team event and a Driver event. Consequently,
marque restrictions will be in place for all point scoring races. Replacing
a driver within a team will be allowed, but it is to be discouraged
(Exception: If a driver can no longer participate regularly he/she can
be replaced).
Unless
otherwise stated in the "Series Specific Rules" section, for
each race, only the best two finishes for a given team will be counted
towards that team's score.
Each
driver will be either part of a team or have "Private Entrant"
status. Team members have an assured spot on the grid for each race,
while "Private Entrants" can fill in any vacant spot available
on race night.
Unless
stated in the "Series Specific Rules" section, Drivers will
not be able to change chassis throughout the season,
with the exception of a "Private Entrant" taking up a full
time position within a team.
Team members
are expected to attend at least 75% of all races. If they are unable
to attend on a regular basis they may be asked to step down.
After
two consecutive series in the same chassis, a driver may be asked to
chose a different chassis if demand is greater than supply.
Ontrack Driver conduct
Unless racing with Pro damage, any Shift-r will have to be followed by a Stop and Go in the Pits, taken within 2 laps of the Shift-r.
If a Shift-r is taken during the last lap and it is impossible to get into the Pits before crossing the finish line, the Stop and Go will have to be taken on the straight before the finish, with extreme care being taken to not disrupt other driver's race.
Only 1 Stop and Go will be required for multiple Shift-r taken during a single lap.
Failure to observe the Shift-r rule will result in the Driver being
demoted to last place for that race.
When being lapped, a driver has the obligation to let the driver doing the lapping past at the earliest safe opportunity.
When lapping, a driver does not have the right to barge past a back marker. It is the responsibility of the overtaking car to ensure they leave enough space for the car being overtaken.
Rulings and penalties
In the event that a driver is listed as disconnected, but actually completes the race (verifiable from the server replay) the finishing position will not be adjusted manually unless the "disconnection" occurs within 2 laps of the end of the race, or if it is clear that other drivers were not unfairly affected by the lack of accurate position data on their pitboards. I will be up to the disconnected driver to promote their cause.
Drivers causing Start Line accidents involving multiple cars are expected to rejoin the race at the back of the field. Similarly, during the course of the race, a driver blatantly causing an accident should wait for any car they have taken out to get going again before proceeding.
The usual rules and etiquette are expected to be followed. If you are unsure what they are, ask for a clarification BEFORE racing.
Failing to correctly observe a Stop and Go after a shift-R will result in the following penalties:
In the case of the car not coming to a complete stop (the replay does not show 0 mph) 30 seconds will be added to the driver's race time.
In the case of a driver not attempting to perform a Stop and Go, 60 seconds will be added to his / her race time.
Drivers acting in an unsporting manner or driving recklessly will be penalised or banned as follows:
First offence will incur a warning.
Second offence will mean a forced start at the back of the grid for the next race.
Third offence, and the driver may be banned from subsequent races.
Running 2 clean races in a row will clear the previous offence.
The YAOL administration reserves the right to refuse or revoke access to any driver it deems to have a detrimental effect on the enjoyment of other league members.
