VROC Racing

If you are still getting started with VROC, I suggest going the WinVROC way, rather than JavaROC.
(I guess its what I am used to, so I don't know any better, but I haven't come across anyone who uses JavaROC yet...)
To get going with WinVROC, go to its home page and  follow the quickstart instructions.
It may seem like a lot of information, but in the end, all you really need to do is download the WinVROC client (From the Download section of the VROC page), install it (answering a few simple questions) and just start racing and chatting online. If you run into trouble you will probably end up reading the docs on it, but you should not have to, provided you do the following:

When you install WinVROC, it will ask you for the path to GPL.EXE. Generally it will look like it has already found it (if you installed GPL in the default directory), but don't be fooled:

You have to manually specify this for WinVROC to actually work. You can do this by either clicking on the "Browse" button or simply typing the path in.

Once you restart WinVROC, you should see "GPL 1.2.0.1" (or 1.2.0.2) in the status line (Bottom center-right).
If you do not, and see something like "GPL 0.0.0.0" then you need to respecify the path by going to the VROC menu and selecting options.

If you have done everything correctly, and still do not see any races, (but can use the chat function) then you probably do not have the correct VROC IP specified.
You need to create a text file with the correct IP, and save it as VROC.INI in the directory where WinVROC is installed (and WinVROC.exe resides)

The contents of the file should be just the following two lines:

[VROC]
Address=
racelist.vroc.net

Restart WinVROC, and you should be all set to join the racing!

In order to chat with just the YAOL drivers, you will need to create a new chat group in WinVROC.  This will enable us to converse without having to worry about all the other people in the GPL chat group.

If you don't know how to do it, here are some simple instructions:

1. Start WinVROC.
2. Press the Chat Room button on the race room screen
to open the chat section of VROC.
3. You should now see the Chat Toolbar in between the race screen and the chat screen.
(If you don't, go to the "View > Toolbars" menu, and make sure "Chat" is checked.)
4. Press the "+" button.
5. Type "YAOL" (without the quotes, of course) and press "OK".
Select the "passworded" option and enter the password as received whe you signed up for the league.

You have now created the YAOL chat room on your computer,
which will be opened by WinVROC automatically.
6. To open the YAOL Chat Room in future,
just press the YAOL tab above your chat window.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

If you are having any type of problem using GPL to race online, this is probably the best starting point to figure out what is going on.
Eagle Woman's Online FAQ. (The whole GPL section of this site is very worthwhile. You can find a link to it in the Links page of the Help! section.)

I personally haven't had to deal with any serious issues, but it makes for good reading anyway.

If you still have problems, feel free to ask me.
